Snake bites: February 2022

A summary of the month of February with exciting news of what's to come!

UPDATEBAND NEWS

3/6/2022

So, as you would have seen in our last blog at the end of January we were shortlisted into the final ten bands for the opportunity to open the 2022 Breaking Bands festival on the Emerging Rock Band’s stage. If you follow us on our socials you will have seen us asking you to download an app and vote for us which lots of you did leading to an incredibly close result however we unfortunately didn't win. The winners were Tempus Frayed who are a cracking young band who we know will absolutely smash the opening slot! We just want to say thank you so much to everyone who voted for us, taking time to download the app and go through all the steps to vote, we truly truly appreciate your support.

At the very end of last month we were selected for one of the heats at the Metal 2 The Masses competition at Trillians, Newcastle with the prize on offer being a slot at Bloodstock Festival 2022. The other bands in our heat were Mother Firefly and Stone Cold Abyss. Two bands advanced into the semi finals and if you haven’t already seen through social media, we were one of those bands along with Stone Cold Abyss. It was such a great night from start to finish and we were honestly buzzing for days after. Everyone played brilliantly, the crowd was fantastic and just the overall vibe of Trillians is great. It is a proper rock bar and it’s so clear why it’s been around all these years and remains the go to place for rock in Newcastle. After we finished our set we got to hang out with everyone and chat with members of the audience as well as the other bands. We had great feedback and made some new fans who we hope will return to the semi final and maybe final….who knows?! You tend to find after a gig, especially if you’re on last and the venue is closing soon after that you need to pack down and be off, leaving not a lot of time to hang out and chat to people. As we were finished by about 10pm and in Newcastle the night was still young, we really appreciated the time we could spend with people. Our semi final is Friday 13th May (superstitious people zip it!) and as always we would love to see you there. Part of the criteria to advance to the final is fan votes so the more of you there in Coral Snake t-shirts singing along the better! Did we mention it was also FREE ENTRY!

Now, you may have heard enough about Trillians already but we haven’t as we have another gig coming up there in March! That’s right, February was very kind to us and we managed to secure a slot supporting Scruffy Bear on Thursday 17th March which is none other than St Patrick's Day! Hailing from a village in North Yorkshire, Scruffy Bear “encompass Soulful Fuzz Rock with a serious and stylish attitude” and we couldn’t agree more with their own description. We are really looking forward to supporting them and hope you are looking forward to coming along too because guess what? It’s FREE ENTRY!

Our big push for the beginning of this year is to write and record some new music which we can confirm is going very well. The track we recorded at the end of last month is now mixed and mastered so will be on its way to your Spotify, Amazon, Apple or whatever platform you listen on very soon. We have also been working on a very special version of a song which we just know you’re going to love as much as we do. We’ve had a couple of very productive sessions on it this month and it’s sounding even better than the original vision we had for it. We’re in the process of finalising parts and then it will be ready to record very soon. In addition to those two songs we already have some within our live set that haven’t been recorded yet. Let us assure you here and now that they will be getting recorded and if that wasn’t enough we have three completely new songs that none of you have even heard yet! We’re having weekly writing sessions to get them finished asap and ready to record. When we said there was lots of new music coming this year we weren’t lying!

Our final bit of good news for the month was quite possibly our biggest to date and certainly something which we are hugely excited about. We have managed to secure an opening slot at Kris Barras’ Newcastle show on the 21st of March! Now this is quite frankly amazing and mind-blowing to think that we got picked by Kris but at the same it is incredibly reassuring to know that others within the scene who have started at the bottom and worked their way up just like Kris, see something in us enough to afford us such an opportunity. Just google Kris Barras and you’ll see the growth and success he’s had in recent years including coming off the back of a UK tour supporting Black Stone Cherry! That’s exactly where we want to head so being able to open a show for Kris, well you can imagine the excitement in our voices when we found out especially since Jamie and Chris have already experienced his talent when they saw Black Stone Cherry in Newcastle last year. He offered slots for four of the shows on his tour to local bands within that area and we know there were a lot of bands that applied in each so we really are grateful for this opportunity and will make the North East proud. Florence Black will also be supporting Kris on his UK tour and as you may remember they were supporting Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons back in November when we opened the show at Independent, Sunderland. They are a band going from strength to strength and we are really looking forward to seeing them again.

Other gigs coming up in March are Sunday 27th at Low Spennymoor Club which is £5 on the door. We’re playing alongside Bosko Green, Tired of Fighting and Endless Season

And finally for those that are in the Leeds/Bradford area and those who wish to travel, we are playing at Nightrain, Bradford on Saturday 2nd April as part of Upstaged’s Trailblazer 10 band showcase event which will also be headlined by fellow North East rockers Twister as they kick off their headline ‘Don’t Play Nice’ UK tour.
