Snake bites: January 2022

A summary of the month of January with exciting news of what's to come!

Coral Snake

Well, what a couple of years we’ve had! Let’s not dwell though, it’s time to own 2022.

How are we going to do that you may ask? Well in true Coral Snake style administrative style we have a spreadsheet of course. Joe likes to deal with all the boring stuff, everything that doesn’t involve playing music, and he’s an absolute sucker for a solid spreadsheet (ladies take note). True to form he has mustered up a pretty timeline full of exciting things, all colour coordinated with deadlines galore. If Jamie & Chris thought they could have a relaxing 2022 they can think again, Coral Snake got goals.

One month down and we can report it’s gone swimmingly. We eased into the first couple of weeks with Joe’s birthday celebrations complete with party hats, balloons and a caterpillar cake. We also started working on a rather special version of an already released song which we just know you are going to love. We followed that up with our first gig of the year returning to NE Volume Music Bar in Stockton-On-Tees. Collectively, we have a long history with this venue under its current and former ownership (Musiclounge). Technically our first gig as Coral Snake was at this venue back in January 2020 (under former owner) and was our ‘test’ gig let’s call it, to see if there was some musical chemistry between us all (even though we were already bezzies off stage). A set comprising mostly of covers, we only had about two originals in their infancy. Obviously the world then shut down (remember we’re not dwelling) but coming out of hibernation and under the new ownership and name, we had our first post lockdown originals gig at this cracking little venue. What Lee & Adam have done with the place is fantastic, not least the stage relocation (thank god!), and the success of the gigs they're putting on is testament to their hard work and perseverance through what unquestionably has been a rough couple of years since they took it over. We are hugely grateful for their support and it’s always a pleasure to play there. If you’re wondering what’s going on in the Teesside area then just check their gig listings.

If you’ve been keeping up with our socials you will have seen that we were shortlisted into the final 12 bands of the Breaking Bands Festival 2022 competition to win the opening slot on the Emerging Rock Bands stage. To be in the final 12 from 150 was truly humbling and we sincerely thank each and every person who voted for us through the Support The Music Scene app. We don’t know the results yet but keep an eye out in Feb to see if we got the gig.

We also announced our very first gig at Nightrain in Bradford on 2nd April. This is a venue that has been on our radar and we’ve seen a lot of exceptionally talented bands appearing on the bill there so to secure a gig there is a tick off the list for us. We have to thank Raz White of Upstaged for giving us this opportunity to perform alongside 9 other bands in a showcase event topped off with a headline set from fellow rocking northerners and very close neighbours Twister. If you’d like tickets then you can purchase them from our unique link here:

Keeping it local we were also asked by Canny Mint Productions to perform at their launch night at Low Spennymoor Club on 27th March alongside Endless Season, Tired of Fighting and Bosko Green. We’ll give you a reminder closer to the time with more details but for now get it marked in that diary.

Amongst writing some new music this month we have found some time to record more too. We headed into The Forum Studios in Darlington to record a new track which will be our next release. We recorded in a slightly different way and decided to do it ‘live’ where we all record at the same time rather than individual sessions per instrument. All we can say for now is it sounds massive and you’re going to be blasting it out those speakers soon.

Props to Matthew Miller from Point Blanc for playing bass, he nailed it. His familiar domain is guitarist/singer for his band who we recommend to check out if you’re into a bit of punk. They’re a young bunch of lads with ton of energy and we assure you that going to one of their live shows will put a smile on your face.

To round off we secured a mint gig towards the end of the month which is coming up very soon. On Friday 18th Feb we will be playing in the first heat of Bloodstock Festival’s Metal 2 The Masses competition at Trillians in Newcastle. This is a huge opportunity for us and we are incredibly excited to be a part of it thanks to Floorshow Promotions. This will be our first visit to Trillians so we hope you can join us in what is sure to be an incredible evening!

Stay slippery,

Jamie, Chris & Joe
